The General Manager, Corporate Communications of the Abuja
Electricity Distribution Company AEDC , Oyebode Fadipe says some
electricity consumers will remain on estimated billings for some time
due to shortfall in meters supply.
Oyebode Fadipe told the anti-corruption programme, Public Conscience on
Radio that despite hiccups, customers should be rest assured that the
metering process is now a lot easier with vigor to boost supply.
Fadipe said the AEDC is committed to discharging its duties to
electricity consumers but was quick to state that customers should for
their part, perform duties they owe the DISCOs.
He claimed that the company was now going from doorstep to doorstep to
give meters to those who had undertaken the necessary procedures for
getting the gadgets.
The AEDC Spokesman admitted that the huge gaps in the metering system
have created rooms for abuse, including consumers who steal electricity
through illegal connections.
Some callers on the programme however had complaints that negated a
comment by Fadipe who said that AEDC was losing money through the
estimated billing method.
Callers asserted that the opposite was the case and accused the AEDC of delivering bills that rose by geometric proportions.
Another guest on the programme. Kunle Olubiyo admitted that there were
cases of scam in the metering process but applauded a case at his
hometown Kabba where a planned protest by his community eventually
presented an opportunity for dialogue with the relevant DISCO.
Public Conscience On Radio is a weekly syndicated program many Radio
stations across Nigeria by the Progressive Impact Organisation For
Community Development, PRIMORG with support from the Macarthur
Foundation.
