NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION TRAINS OVER 50 ANTI CORRUPTION ADVOCATES

A non governmental organization, , Alliance for Africa (AFA), has organized a two day training of over 50 participants in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, on the dangers of corruption.The training held at San Diego Hotels Abakaliki, was also aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the participants in Advocating for anti corruption.This was following the recent Transparency International 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index , where Nigeria ranked 144 least corrupt nation out of 175 countries analyzed.The non governmental organization got support from MacArthur foundation for the 2day training tagged, “Policy Engagement Skills and Strategies as Promoters and Advocates of Accountability”.Those trained include media practitioners in the state, people living with disabilities, political office holders, security agencies as well as CSOs.Addressing participants during the training, the leader of the team, Mrs Blessing Duru, noted that the program became more important because of the growing rate of corruption in the society.She lamented that corruption has eaten deep in the country even as market women who use fake cup to sell garri and rice are promoting corruption.Stating this, MacArthur foundation decided to join hands with Alliance for African to raise anti corruption advocates in Enugu and Ebonyi states to enable people ask questions and hold their leaders accountable.AFA Communications officer Chinewndu Anozie, in her remarks, urged the participants to tackle corruption in the state for the benefit of younger generations, stressing that citizens after electing a leader should be able to hold the leader accountable on his or her score card to ensure that such person deliver on his campaign promises.

She emphasized that the training was to strengthen the capacity of the participants to become anti corruption advocates and call on them to adopt a strategy towards advocating for anti corruption in Ebonyi state.One of the resource persons, Mr Monday Michael Ashbong in his submission, called on the federal government to adopt policy that would make the anti corruption fight feasible.Mr Monday commended AFA for organizing the training, noting that with the knowledge impacted on the participants they would go a long way in advocating for anti corruption especially in the rural areas and the society will be saved.
