ABSTRACT
The
paper discusses the debacle of corruption plaguing nations of the world. In the
paper efforts are made to examine the milestones that have been attained in the
fight against corruption in Nigeria. The milestones attained are both within
and outside. It is argued in the paper that countries of the world are
confronted with corruption which retards national and global development
consequent to social unrests. Clearly, corruption is a global problem that
requires global effort and collaboration to tackle. Hence, to mitigate
corruption cooperation of victim and destination countries is required. In
Nigeria where corruption is systemic, endemic and pervasive the nation’s
resources are looted and stashed away within and outside the country causing
under-development and social unrest. Therefore, to engender socio-economic
progress, peace and stability in Nigeria corruption must be fought. One of the
campaign promises by the government of Muhammadu Buhari was the fight against
corruption and on assuming office the government began fighting corruption
within and outside the country using diverse approaches. Although corruption is
fighting back in Nigeria, a lot of milestones have been attained in fighting
it. The paper discussed the milestones that have been achieved in the fight
against corruption in Nigeria by examining these milestones within and outside
the country in the fight against corruption.
