The trend of political corruption in Nigeria heightened recently with widely reported incidences of violence, ballot snatching and vote trading involving the various political parties and across the country. Violence creates the opportunity for all forms of electoral malpractices which compromises citizens’ participation in democratic process and ultimately impugn on the integrity of elections. The accusation and counter-accusation of monetisation of electoral process and prevalence of vote trading also constitute a major threat to the fight against corruption in the political stake which in turn feeds the vicious cycle of corruption, impunity and poverty.
